NEWMARKET – Waste can be costly to businesses – both to the bottom-line and the environment. Businesses now have a free opportunity to learn how to reduce the costs and legal responsibility of not managing and storing hazardous wastes properly.
Through the Ontario Drinking Water Stewardship Program, businesses located in close proximity to municipal drinking water sources can receive a free, confidential Pollution Prevention (P2) Review from the Canadian Centre for Pollution Prevention.
Business owners or managers can attend one of two information sessions being held in, Barrie and Newmarket to learn more about how they and the environment can benefit from a review.
“It’s important to remember that waste is often lost product,” says Maggie Simpson, Stewardship Technician for the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority “and in addition to reducing waste, pollution prevention reviews allow business owners to help protect the water we all drink.”
Information sessions are being held in the following locations:
Newmarket, Cardinal Golf Club, 2740 Davis Drive West (Hwy #9) Tuesday, July 13, 2010, 1-4pm
Barrie, Holiday Inn, 20 Fairview Road (Hwy 400 & Essa Rd) Wednesday, July 14, 2010, 1-4pm
Although only some businesses will be eligible for funding, all are welcome to attend the information sessions. To determine if you are eligible for a free review, please visit www.ourwatershed.ca/funding, or call Maggie Simpson, Stewardship Technician at 1-800-465-0437.
During the review, a qualified consultant will visit and work with the business to look at the entire operation, from production, to raw materials, to inventory control. Once the review is complete, a confidential report will be given to the participant that outlines goals and recommendations for cost effective pollution prevention strategies.
All recommendations are voluntary. Implementing these recommendations will reduce your potential impact on the environment and may reduce utility usage, waste disposal costs, raw material use and reduce the risk of legal responsibility. The review may also improve product yield, sustainability, company image in the community and protect the environment.
Eligible businesses must apply for a review by July 31, 2010 but have until September 30, 2010 to complete the review.
