Newmarket - April 20, 2016 - Be an advocate for safe drinking water in your community! Applications are being accepted by The South Georgian Bay Lake Simcoe (SGBLS) Source Protection Region for two new economic sector members and one public sector member to serve on the SGBLS Source Protection Committee (SPC).


Source Protection Now in Effect

Newmarket, ON - July 2, 2015 – New policies to protect municipal drinking water sources came into effect yesterday. The Source Water Protection Plan for the South Georgian Bay Lake Simcoe Source Protection Region (see map) contains policies designed to prevent contaminants from industrial, agricultural and other sources from getting into municipal wells and water supplies.

Source Protection Plan Approved

Newmarket – January 29, 2015 – Your drinking water is even safer now that the source protection plan for the South Georgian Bay Lake Simcoe Source Protection Region has received approval from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change. The plan was approved on January 29, 2015 and will take effect on July 1, 2015. The effective date comes some time after the approval date to allow municipalities and other implementing bodies the opportunity to undertake the necessary preparation for implementation.


Public Comment Invited on Source Protection Plan and Assessment Reports

Newmarket – April 24, 2014 – The South Georgian Bay Lake Simcoe Source Protection Committee has made revisions to its proposed drinking water source protection plan as well as the supporting technical information contained within the assessment reports.


Rama First Nation Drinking Water System Included in Source Water Program

February 21, 2014 - The South Georgian Bay Lake Simcoe Source Protection Committee and Chippewas of Rama First Nation Chief and Council are pleased to announce the inclusion of Rama’s drinking water system in the Source Water Protection planning process. Notification was received from the Minister of the Environment, Jim Bradley, that an amendment had been made to Ontario Regulation 287/07 under the Clean Water Act, 2006 to formally include Rama First Nation’s drinking water system.
