Join us on May 12 at Georgian Downs in Innisfil or May 13 at the Highwayman Inn in Orillia for an informative morning dedicated to understanding and discussing the implications of Source Water Protection.
Source Water Protection Planning comes out of the recommendations made in the wake of the Walkerton Inquiry – where local groups of citizens (Source Protection Committees) were charged with the task of developing policies to protect municipal sources of drinking water – from both contamination and overuse.
Our Source Protection Committee is about to embark on the final stage in the source protection planning process – policy development. These “Source Protection Policies” will have far-reaching impacts – on residents, on landowners, on businesses and especially on municipalities, who will be at the heart of the implementation efforts. As a municipal representative, you need to be aware of and prepared for the changes that are about to take place.
This workshop is designed for municipal councillors and staff members, regardless of whether or not you’re familiar with the Source Water Protection program. There will be an opportunity to get an overview, hear the latest updates, ask questions, provide feedback and meet with Source Protection Committee members and staff to ensure you have the resources you need so that you’re prepared when the Source Protection Plan is completed in the summer of 2012.
