NEWMARKET – The South Georgian Bay Lake Simcoe Source Protection Region has launched a new interactive map to help residents see if they qualify for money to protect sources of drinking water.
Since 2007, the Ontario Drinking Water Stewardship Program, through the South Georgian Bay Lake Simcoe Source Protection Region, has been helping residents fund projects such as well decommissionings, septic pump-outs and pollution prevention reviews for small and medium sized businesses. These measures help protect our sources of municipal drinking water from contamination and overuse.
The new interactive map allows residents to enter their address and generate a report with a map. If the property is within an orange or red coloured zone, they may be eligible for stewardship funding to undertake projects like the ones listed above.
“It’s important that residents take advantage of the funding this summer, as the program eligibility will be changing in the fall,” says Maggie Simpson, Stewardship Technician for the Region.
The map can be accessed by going to www.ourwatershed.ca/funding. If residents think they are eligible they can contact Maggie Simpson, Stewardship Technician at 1-800-465-0437 at extension 277.
